On November 9, Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Paso hosted their Dance for Kids’ Sake 2019. Their special local spin on the popular television show Dancing with the Stars was made possible by generous judges and dancers that stepped up to support mentoring in El Paso. Music filled the air while an exciting silent auction was held to continue raising money and awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters. It was an amazing evening filled with fun, friendship, and fundraising as people gathered together to support a great cause.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is an organization that provides mentoring and support services to children of all ages. Its mission is to provide strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that help children reach their highest potential. The organization was founded in 1904 by New York City court clerk Ernest Coulter and it has grown into the largest volunteer-supported mentoring organization in the United States. Big Brothers Big Sisters focuses on providing guidance, support and friendship to children who may be facing difficult circumstances.
The organization works with schools, social service agencies, churches and other community organizations to match volunteers (or “Bigs”) with children (“Littles”). The goal is for adults to act as mentors and role models, providing guidance and support to the children they work with. Big Brothers Big Sisters has helped millions of children build confidence, gain self-esteem and succeed in school and beyond. By spending time together, building a relationship, talking about what is important to them both and simply having fun, Bigs provide Littles with a safe and healthy environment that allows them to thrive.
Overall, Dance for Kids Sake 2019 was a great success and an enjoyable evening. Not only did it raise money to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Paso’s mission, but also provided an opportunity for people in the community to come together and celebrate the importance of mentorship. We are grateful for all those who supported this event with their time and energy as well as generous donations that will help make a difference in our local youth’s lives.
